Bio
Violist Lorento Golofeev was born in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Viola Performance in Chisinau and held positions with the Moldavian National Philharmonic Orchestra and National Chamber Orchestra. In 2000, Mr. Golofeev won the position of assistant principal viola with the Moldavian National Opera and Ballet Theater, with whom he toured all over Europe, often playing 80 or even 100 performances in a single tour. A few years later, Lorento decided to continue his education and moved to Houston to complete his Master’s degree in viola performance at the University of Houston with Lawrence Wheeler. While still in school, he won a section viola position with the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra. In 2006, he won another audition and became assistant principal viola in the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra and a section viola member with the Houston Ballet Orchestra. Around the same time, he started playing on a regular basis with both ROCO and Mercury Baroque.
In his spare time, Lorento enjoys cooking, making jams and jellies, and arranging pop and rock songs for string quartet.
