When you meet Matt, ask him… What is a viola d’amore? What exactly is a Boomer Sooner? What is his favorite baseball team?

Dane has also been a featured soloist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, BCOC, St. Martin’s Chamber Choir, and ROCO, performing repertoire from Bach to Morton Feldman.
Teaching has long been a great interest of and mission for Dane. He earned tenure as a Professor of Viola at the University of Oklahoma, and more recently has served on the faculties of Metro State University of Denver and the University of Colorado. He actively maintains a private teaching studio in Boulder, CO. During the summers, he teaches his own Boulder Violist Session, as well as at Greenwood Music Camp. He has also served the American Viola Society as both a board member and as the editor of its peer-reviewed journal. His doctoral document, which examines the teaching influence of Karen Tuttle, enjoys wide circulation among amateur and professional violists nationwide.
Recently Matt has become fascinated by the viola d’amore. He owns two instruments, one commissioned from renowned luthier Martin Biller in 2013, the other an Eberle from 1731. In addition to exploring repertoire from the Baroque period, he has commissioned new solo works by Reena Esmail, Michael Theodore, Conor Brown, and Marcus Maroney.
