American soprano Viviana Aurelia Goodwin, is in her first year of the Washington National Opera’s Cafritz Young Artist Program. Most recently, she was featured as Gerhilde in Gods & Mortals: A Celebration of Wagner and the Crowned Child in Verdi’s Macbeth.

American soprano Viviana Aurelia Goodwin, is in her first year of the Washington National Opera’s Cafritz Young Artist Program. Most recently she was featured as Gerhilde in Gods & Mortals: A Celebration of Wagner and the Crowned Child in Verdi’s Macbeth. Her assignments for remaining 2025 season include featured roles in the Kennedy Center’s Cartography Project and American Opera Initiative. This May, she will make her principal role debut as Clara in Francesca Zambello’s production of Porgy & Bess to be performed at the Kennedy Center.
In the 2025-2026 season, Miss Goodwin is ecstatic to continue in the Cafritz program with two role debuts including Susanna in the young artist performance of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro as well as the title role of Treemonisha in collaboration with Damien Sneed, Kyle Bass, and Denyce Graves in the Spring of 2026.
Prior to Fall 2024, Miss Goodwin was featured as Donna Elvira in the Merola Opera Program’s production of Don Giovanni. She also appeared as Suzel in Mascagni’s Cherry Duet from L’amico Fritz in the Merola Grand Finale Concert.
In the 2022 and 2023 summer festival seasons, she was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. She covered the role of the Strawberry Woman in their 50th anniversary production of Porgy & Bess. She returned for their 51st season in the choruses of Bizet’s Carmen and Prokofiev’s For the Love of Three Oranges and was featured in various scene from La bohème (Musetta), The Rake’s Progress (Anne Truelove), Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira), and Les Contes d’Hoffman (Giulietta).
She is a recent student of the Shepherd School of Music with a master’s degree in Vocal Performance where she studied with Nova Thomas. Previously, she attended Oklahoma City University and was a student of Emmy-award winning artist Jeffrey Picón. As a Cafritz Young Artist she has also studied with Betsy Bishop, Heidi Grant Murphy, Mark Schneible, and Neil Shicoff.
In 2024, she received an Encouragement Award winner from the Tulsa District of the Laffont Competition and 3rd place in the Ladies Music Club Competition in 2022. This past January, Miss Goodwin was named a District Winner of the Tulsa District.
