Introducing ROCO’s New Interactive Mini Mural!
We are so excited to present ROCO’s very own Mini Mural – located in Highland Village at the corner of Westheimer and Drexel, directly across from the Apple Store!!
Mini Murals, produced by UP Art Studio, is an award-winning project that reimagines traffic signal control cabinets (also referred to as electrical or utility boxes) as blank canvases full of creative opportunity, inspiring artistic expression for all to enjoy.
Our mural was beautifully created by local artist Jessica Padilla (@Studio.Jexxi on Instagram) – a 23 year-old education student at University of Houston-Clear Lake and active art teacher in Galena Park ISD, where she graduated from North Shore High School.
“Let’s Play” features vibrantly rendered musical instruments representing each family of the orchestra, positioned to invite you into our world to interact and make music, as shown by a few ROCO musicians here!
The back panel (facing toward the parking lot) honors ROCO’s commitment to commissioning new works, displaying the sheet music for a ROCO commission capturing the strength of our city in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and personifying the collaborative spirit of ROCO: Anthem of Hope: Houston Strong by Anthony DiLorenzo.
Share your own photos with our mural and tag us on social media, with #ROCOPlay – we can’t wait to see your pics!
Our special thanks goes out to Mini Murals and UP Art Studio in making this project happen, and to the Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Houston Arts Alliance in their support of ROCO.
And of course, also to our amazing musician models: Alecia Lawyer, Aloysia Friedmann, Rasa Kalesnykaite and son Adrian, Shino Hayashi and son Yugen, Courtenay Vandiver Pereira, and Lorento Golofeev!
